The swelling of joint(so) is known as arthritis. It may occur in knees, wrists or in the spinal cord. Most common type of Arthritis which is concerning to many adults is the knees arthritis.
So what causes Arthritis?
Cartilage, a rubbery smooth protective layer, ensures that joints bend and function painlessly. Synovium, a thin membrane provides fluid to the cartilage for the smooth functioning of the joints.
As cartilage runs out of the fluid supplied by Synovium, erosion of joint takes place. Dryness causes swelling and inflammation. This process takes place over a period of years.
Usually when a person crosses 50 years anyone of the joints gives in to erosion and soon causes pain.
Arthritis has spread like fire in the forest and has consumed more patients in a short span.
An obese person suffering from Arthritis is suggested to lose weight. Even an extra 5 KG weight falls on the painful joint making the situation worse.
If you are 10 KGs overweight your joint has to carry the extra kilos. Losing weight, even a KG or few, will lessen the pressure on the joint letting it function with ease.
Arthritis of the knees causes excruciating pain and makes it difficult for the person to walk. There are exercises which can help ease the pain. But Arthritis patients should always be careful not to stress themselves working out too much. Any exercise should be performed with expert’s advice and strictly adhered to.
Listed are some exercises for Arthritis patients:
Stretching of muscles is always a great way to ease pain. Stretch only as much as you can. Do not force yourself to stretch through pain. If you feel pain it’s an indication that you must stop.
Walking also helps muscle pulls and pains. Take a good long walk and ease the stress. You can also introduce step aerobics or low impact exercises.
Cycling is a good option as it’s a low impact exercise. But one must be careful not to extend cycling for long. Always make sure that the seat is adjusted right to fit you. Else it may lead to back ache and subsequently other pains and aches.
Swimming is a good form of exercise as it is also a cardio workout.
There are other exercises one can gain knowledge of from physiotherapists. But never start a new exercise without taking advice and understanding how your body may react to it.
Permanent cure for Arthritis is still unavailable. But with right diet and regular exercise pain can be put at ease.
